The Pennine Barrier Ultra 50 is a 50‑mile trail ultramarathon organised by GB Ultras that threads classic Yorkshire Dales terrain into a single day challenge. The route fuses Malham Cove, the Dry Valley of Watlowes, Malham Tarn, Fountains Fell, Janet’s Foss and the Yorkshire Three Peaks (Pen‑y‑Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough), using sections of the Pennine Way and the Yorkshire Three Peaks way‑marked trails and GB Ultras markers. The course carries approximately 2,593 metres of ascent and is supported with GPX files and waymarking to help competitors navigate the route.
Logistics and safety are emphasised: the race starts and finishes at Malham Showfield with registration windows the evening before and race morning, a 06:00 race start and an 18‑hour overall cut‑off. Five staffed checkpoints provide food, water and medical cover, and live online GPS tracking is provided via GB Race Tracker; chip timing records official finish times. Mandatory kit rules, no pacers or dropbags, parking provisions and a cupless policy are enforced, and finishers who complete within the cut‑off receive a GB Ultras 50‑mile finisher medal; ITRA/UTMB points allocation is noted as pending for 2026.
