The AJ Bell Great North Run is a mass-participation half marathon held annually between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields, with the 2026 edition branded as AJ Bell Great North Run X Mul. The confirmed date for 2026 is 13 September, with a published race start time of 10:50 and an expected field of around 60,000 runners. The course is a 13.1-mile road route that traditionally begins on the A167 near Claremont Road, passes iconic landmarks including the Tyne Bridge, and finishes along the South Shields seafront. The event marks the 45th running in 2026 and is promoted by The Great Run Company in partnership with title sponsor AJ Bell.
The event is known for its lively crowd atmosphere, on-course entertainment zones and strong charity fundraising presence, with numerous official charity partners and charity entry options. Entrants receive a finishers' medal and access to professional event photography, the Great Run event app and post-event discounts; baggage services (baggage buses), information points and Metro guidance are provided to help manage logistics on race day. Entry is primarily by ballot with charity and membership routes available; official event information and FAQs (including age and wave allocation policies) are published on the Great Run website and in the race information pack sent before the event.
