The Sundowner Trail Marathon is an evening trail race that runs into the Essex sunset, organised by Trail Boss Running. Taking place on 6 June 2026, the race follows a roughly 27-mile route that passes coastal saltmarsh, canal towpaths, vineyards and woodland, and is laid out as two loops that return to the start/finish at the halfway point. The course is fully marked and runners are advised to use the provided GPX; mid-race logistics include three well stocked checkpoints (vegan options) and access to drop bags at roughly 15 miles. The event emphasises a low-impact approach with a cupless policy and specific mandatory kit for night running.
Field size is intentionally limited to create a friendly, small‑field experience and entries are constrained for safety and logistics. There are bespoke locally made trophies and prize money for the Open category, plus a special prize for the fastest male and female on a marked Strava segment; prize winners are announced on social media after the event. The Sundowner theme and evening start make this a distinctive late‑evening challenge combining coastal scenery and technical trails, suitable for experienced trail runners prepared for night navigation and self‑sufficiency.
