SKRĒJIENSOĻOJUMS RĪGA–VALMIERA is Latvia’s classic 107 km road ultra from the Freedom Monument in Rīga to St. Simon’s Church in Valmiera, starting at midnight under the stars. The route is unmarked, and participants must navigate by the official course description, map and GPX track, bringing a distinctive navigational challenge to a fast road ultra. The event carries IAU Silver Label recognition and in 2026 hosts the Latvian Championship 100 km classification en route, attracting a competitive domestic field alongside committed ultrarunners. Safety and visibility are paramount, with a hi‑vis vest and headlamp required through the night.
Runners traverse a historic highway corridor via a sequence of well‑spaced control points offering drinks and snacks, with water‑only stations on select sections. The iconic finish requires touching the church door handle in Valmiera, with a 19‑hour overall time limit and a timed “speed section” from the 100 km mark to the finish. Post‑race services include showers and massage at Valmiera 5. vidusskola, catering from midday, and an optional participant bus back to Rīga. Organised by the public‑benefit association ULTRATAKA, the event also promotes charitable donations for Vidzeme children with movement impairments.
