The Dragon's Back Race® is a six-day, supported mountain stage race across the spine of Wales that covers approximately 380 km with very large cumulative ascent (organiser figures cite around 16,400 metres). The event is run by Ourea Events and is presented as an expedition-style challenge with overnight tented camps, GPS tracking and staffed support points rather than a single-day trail run. The 2026 edition introduces two new two-day options (Dragon's Fire and Dragon's Tail) alongside the flagship Full Dragon and the flexible Hatchling option, widening access while retaining the race's remote, mountainous character.
Racers should expect rugged mountain terrain, stringent cut-offs and communal camp logistics with meal provision, dry-bag transfers and medical support at overnight sites. The route emphasises navigation, high-level ridgelines and long, sustained ascent and is staged with daily start windows and course-closure times to ensure safety. Entries for 2026 are open via the official site and the event materials highlight GPX route files, official map products and detailed pre-race guidance for competitors.
