Erholungsgebiet Elfrather See
The Covestro Triathlon brings mass-participation racing to the Elfrather See in Krefeld, combining a scenic lake swim with a flat, fully closed bike course and a lively lakeside atmosphere. Athletes transition centrally by the water before heading onto a fast out-and-back bike section and looping run laps around the lake. Established in 1988 and described locally as Krefeld’s biggest sports event, the programme spans Olympic, popular and introductory triathlons, plus relays and youth Swim & Run (Aquathlon/Swimrun) races. The event is presented under Covestro title sponsorship and regularly attracts large fields of participants and enthusiastic spectators.
The course uses the Elfrather See regatta stretch for the swim, a fully closed and flat bike loop and lakeside running laps with a central, spectator-friendly transition zone. Organised under DTU rules with NRWTV approval, the event enforces helmet use and non-drafting across public races (with drafting permitted only in NRW‑Liga competitions). Timing is via Real‑Time‑Champion chips (on-the-day pick-up and rental available) and professional race photography is provided by Sportograf. Safety and competition rules, course maps, GPX links and result lists are published by the organiser; entrants should consult the official event website for latest practical details.
Practical arrival guidance and designated parking are provided for participants and guests. Provisional start windows are communicated ahead of race day to help entrants plan around the multi-wave format. The event offers multiple youth, relay and Swim & Run options and typically draws around 1,000 endurance athletes.
