Berkhamsted Castle, Berkhamsted, HP4 1LJ, United Kingdom
The Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K is an iconic single-day ultra that starts at Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow, Wendover, following ridgeline trails through Ashridge, Ivinghoe Beacon, Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf. The course is advertised as a 50K event (official distance) though current route adjustments mean the practical distance is approximately 51 km, offering roughly 996 m of elevation gain and extensive scenic views across the Chilterns. This is a trail event designed for experienced trail runners and adventurous first-time ultramarathon finishers who are comfortable with undulating singletrack and exposed ridge sections. The organiser highlights fully marked trails, marshal support at key points and a comprehensive runners' guide with GPX downloads and route maps.
Runners are supported by three main aid stations, live chip timing and course-wide medical cover, and the race carries a 9-hour overall time limit. Entry is capped (maximum 400 entrants) and the event is held under a Trail Running Association licence and UKA rules; mandatory kit is required and details are provided in the runners' pack. Practical services include coach transfers, finish refreshments, changing facilities and event toilets, plus official race photography and downloadable GPX/OS Maps/Strava routes. The official event page and runner materials supply maps, checkpoint locations and the full kit list for competitors.
