The 9. Wald-Marathon is a long-distance forest hiking event beginning and ending at the Falkenburghalle in Wilgartswiesen. The main route is a demanding long-distance hike of approximately 47.4 km, with alternative shorter options offered; participants are encouraged to prepare for significant elevation gain. The route runs on panoramic trails through the Hauenstein hiking area and is promoted for its extensive forest scenery, dramatic rock formations and deep valleys. The event is presented by the regional tourism organisations and published on the event pages of the local organisers.
The course uses sections of premium hiking tours and is supported on the trail with seven staffed aid stations offering food and drink; two PWV huts also provide paid hut meals en route. A free return shuttle service to Falkenburghalle is offered for participants who do not complete the full distance, and GPX/KML route files are provided for navigation. Participants receive a certificate (Urkunde) on completion; registration, pricing and detailed entry rules are available from the organiser's event page.
