Glocknerkönig is an annual alpine road cycling challenge held on the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße; the 2026 edition is listed as the "29. Glocknerkönig". The event attracts hundreds of riders to tackle one of the Alps' most iconic climbs and is staged with the road closed to motor traffic for the race window. Riders ascend through dramatic high‑alpine scenery to summit finishes at Fuscher Törl or the Edelweißspitze, making the event a highlight for both competitors and spectators. The organiser publishes course specifics, road closure windows and entry information on the official event site.
Two main race options are offered: the Classic (finish Fuscher Törl) and the Ultra (finish Edelweißspitze), with route distances and large elevation gains that create sustained gradients often in the 10–12% range. The official pages give road closure windows for the event day (uphill 07:00–10:30, downhill 06:30–10:30) and list precise distances and elevation figures for each route. Registration is handled via the official Glocknerkönig registration pages; at the time of publication the Ultra category is sold out while Classic places remain available and an Ultra waiting list is operated via the event contact. The weekend also includes start number distribution and a small expo alongside family‑friendly activities organised by the local tourism association.
