The FALKE Rothaarsteig‑Marathon is a scenic, hilly trail event based around Fleckenberg in the Schmallenberger Sauerland, Germany. Distances traditionally include a marathon of 42.195 km, a half‑marathon of around 22.6 km, a 12.5 km AOK‑Lauf, plus Walking and Nordic‑Walking over roughly 22.6 km. The course climbs onto the Rothaarsteig with notable sections such as Siebentanne, Heidkopf and the Großer Kopf high point, blending forest paths, cross‑country trails and striking viewpoints. Aid stations are placed approximately every five kilometres and at the finish. Medical cover is provided on course and at the start/finish by an emergency doctor team with DRK support.
Facilities include showers and changing rooms near the sports ground, and ample village parking guided by the local fire brigade; dogs are not permitted. The 2025 edition scheduled for Saturday, 18 October 2025 was officially cancelled due to an African Swine Fever (ASF) order from the local authority. Organisers have expressed the hope to see participants again on 17 October 2026; please check the official website for updates before making plans. The event remains known for its challenging elevation, friendly organisation and the authentic Sauerland atmosphere in and around Sportplatz Fleckenberg.
