The FALKE Rothaarsteig-Marathon is a scenic trail running event that begins at the Schützenhalle in Fleckenberg. The race is set in the Mittelgebirgslandschaft of the Schmallenberger Sauerland and follows the natural paths of the Rothaarsteig, offering a predominantly off‑road experience. The event is promoted as having a particularly family‑friendly atmosphere and a strong volunteer presence, giving it a community feel rather than a purely commercial staging. It uses the local village as its hub and encourages visitors to use the Touristinformation Schmallenberger Sauerland for accommodation help.
The programme includes multiple distances for different abilities, with the full marathon and half marathon as the headline races plus a 12.5 km AOK‑sponsored run and walking/Nordic‑walking on the half distance. Aid stations with fruit and drinks are provided roughly every five kilometres, and on‑site offerings such as massages, live coverage, sports stalls and a large selection of cakes baked by volunteers add to the event atmosphere. Parking is signposted for the day and public transport connections are described on the information pages to help visitors reach Fleckenberg. The event branding and local partners emphasise trail running, community involvement and a varied side programme for participants and spectators.
