18th Crystal Marathon

The 18. Kristallmarathon takes place 500 metres below ground in the tunnels of Erlebnis Bergwerk Merkers, offering one of Germany’s most unusual running experiences. Set against walls of salt rock, the course is described by the venue as a loop of a little over three kilometres, creating a distinctive rhythm and atmosphere far from typical road events. Organised in cooperation with Triathlonverein Barchfeld e. V., the race combines athletic challenge with an extraordinary subterranean setting.

With a participant cap communicated at up to 750 runners and separate spectator ticketing via the mine operator, the edition is designed to keep logistics smooth and the experience focused. Temperatures underground remain stable compared with winter conditions on the surface, adding comfort even while the route undulates through historic galleries. Registration is handled by the organising club via its channels, while visitor arrangements are managed directly by Erlebnis Bergwerk Merkers.
