The Trail des Forts de Besançon (officially branded with the slogan “FAITES LES FORTS !”) is a multi-distance trail weekend around the historic fortifications of Besançon. The event highlights the city’s military heritage, including routes that traverse forts and finish near the Citadelle, a UNESCO-recognised site, and stages races from La Rodia in central Besançon. Over three days participants can choose everything from a nocturnal short time-trial and family children’s runs to long-distance formats that pass ten forts and significant viewpoints.
The 2026 edition (23rd edition) runs across 8–10 May with the main race programme concentrated on 9–10 May and a broad selection of solo, relay and challenge formats. Distances include a 62 km “reine” with high elevation, a 42 km marathon-format race, mid-distance options such as 22 km and 17 km (duo), shorter timed and recreational courses plus a multi-race challenge and kids’ programme. The organiser provides GPX traces, the official regulations and practical information (bib collection, mandatory kit lists and aid-station rules) via the event website and linked documents.
