Saint Cuthbert's Way Ultra (branded "The Race Against the Tide") is a way‑marked long‑distance trail event run along the Saint Cuthbert's Way corridor between Melrose and Holy Island. Organised by Trail Outlaws, the event offers multi‑distance options on a single race day and emphasises navigation, tide awareness and route stewardship across protected landscapes in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland. The race features live GPS tracking for competitors and multiple staffed checkpoints to support runners across a demanding single‑day course.
The event is built around a strong support infrastructure including fully stocked timed checkpoints, chip timing and medical cover, plus free digital race photography for participants. The flagship 100 km offering includes wave starts and a tide‑scheduled coastal finish at Holy Island, while a 45‑mile option provides a shorter but similarly way‑marked challenge. Participants should expect variable terrain, mandatory kit requirements and clear cut‑offs driven by the tidal finish plan.
