The SAARathon on 11 October 2026 is a single-day city road-running festival in Saarbrücken offering multiple officially measured distances: the full Weltkulturerbe‑Marathon (42.195 km), a half marathon, the 38. Westspangenlauf (10 km), a 5 km public run (Lauf für alle) and a 1 km Schülerlauf for younger athletes. The Saarland marathon championship is contested within the marathon. The courses follow the Saar river with flat, fast asphalt/riverside sections, notable river views and a crossing of the Westspangenbrücke; the half-marathon route briefly reaches French territory at its turning point.
Registration is handled via the Racepedia/Westspangenlauf registration portal. Logistics and athlete services include packet pickup and changing/shower facilities at Sporthalle St. Arnual, aid stations approximately every 5 km, secure bag drop and race chip timing, and food & drink services on site. Medical cover is provided by DRK Ortsverein Gersweiler-Ottenhausen; pacemaker targets and maximum finish-time regulations apply for the long-distance events (pacemakers and overall marathon time limits described in the Ausschreibung). The event is approved by the DLV and insured via LSVS. Winners receive prizes and results are published through official channels. Entrants grant the organiser usage rights for photos and video; force‑majeure and cancellation policies are described in the official announcement. The event is organised by Laufgemeinschaft Saarbrücken and presented under the Sparkassen-SAARathon branding.
