Patterdale, Lake District
Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra is a long-distance mountain ultramarathon held on the Helvellyn ridge in the Lake District. The race is renowned for its technical, ridge-line terrain and demanding ascents, offering 57 km with approximately 3,700 m of ascent and exposed sections including Striding and Swirral Edges. The course is run anti-clockwise to manage edge traffic and is fully marked; competitors are expected to have strong mountain skills and experience on rocky, boggy and scree-strewn fell ground.
The event is delivered by Lake District Sky Trails and is confirmed for 18 July 2026 with a 06:30 start. Entry is handled via SiEntries and includes GPS tracking and timing, ITRA/UTMB ranking points, one fully supplied feed station plus valley support points and 11 manned checkpoints, and a distinctive wildflower seed-bomb finisher medal. Optional extras such as a cotton tee, goat-bells for support teams and post-race massage are available for purchase, and a mountain-qualified safety team and medical provision are in place.
