    About

Murdick’s Run the Chop Challenge is a Vineyard tradition on the 4th of July! This race has been in existence for well over 20 years, with Murdick's Fudge the presenting sponsor of this event. The race has raised over $130,000 for island based youth programs including the Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls Club, The MV Youth Running Club and Rotary of Martha's Vineyard. Through the support of our volunteers, the community of Vineyard Haven, and of course our runners, this race continues to be a huge success and a great way to kick off the 4th!

This year the race is a 4 mile loop (run Four on the Fourth!) around West Chop beginning at the Saint Augustine Church just off Franklin Street, about 3 blocks up from the boat dock in Vineyard Haven. Meant for the whole family, the race includes a fun run for the kids, followed by the main event at 9 am.

To avoid race day lines, we encourage you to pick up your race bib and race shirt at Murdick's Fudge in Vineyard Haven on Thursday, July 3rd from 4:00-5:00 pm. You can also pick it up on race day from 7:00-8:30 am at the race start (Saint Augustine Church.) Please note the location as this has changed from previous years. We will NOT be doing registration or bib pick up at the Tisbury School.

Late in-person registrations will be taken at Murdick's in Vineyard Haven on Thursday, July 3rd from 4:00-5:00 pm, and on race morning from 7:00-8:30 at the race start at Saint Augustine Church. Cash or check only! This is going to be a SOLD OUT event. Race shirts guaranteed to the first 600 only.

In-person registrations will be limited to 200. Please come early if you plan on registering in person.

Please note that due to construction at the Tisbury School, our traditional race headquarters, the course had to be adjusted this year. The event will start and finish on Clough Lane, just off Franklin Street. The race distance is slightly more than 4 miles.

PARKING IS VERY LIMITED. You cannot park at the school this year. Please make arrangements to find street parking, use the Tisbury Park and Ride, bike, or get someone to drop you off.

AWARDS will be presented on site to top male and female overall, and to top three male and female in the standard age divisions.

Thanks, everyone, and looking forward to seeing you!
