Surrounded by the majestic Monte Rosa, the highest mountain face in Europe, Macugnaga is a unique Italian mountain village situated at the base of the mountain. This village is a gem known as the "Pearl of Monte Rosa" and has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when the Walser people from Valais, a region in Switzerland, first settled here. Even today, the influence of Walser culture can be seen in the architecture and traditional dress of the villagers. The Walser language, Titsch, is still spoken by the older generations in the small settlement of Dorf, which includes a church, cemetery, and ancient "Tiglio" tree. The Monterosa Est Himalayan Trail race is an exciting opportunity for international travelers to challenge themselves on steep and technical terrain as they explore the breathtaking landscape surrounding Monte Rosa. With distances ranging from 14km to 103km, runners will have the chance to experience the grandeur of Europe's highest mountain while immersing themselves in the history and culture of Macugnaga. Don't miss this unforgettable chance to run in the footsteps of the Walser people and conquer the legendary Monterosa Est Himalayan Trail.
