St John's Community Church, Greengates, BD10 0BB
The Leeds Country Way In A Day 100km is a single-day circumnavigation of the city of Leeds following the Leeds Country Way footpaths. The route is presented as approximately 100 km (roughly 62 miles) and remains largely rural, with extensive views of the West and North Yorkshire countryside while never being more than about seven miles from Leeds City Square. The course follows public rights of way including footpaths, bridleways and minor lanes and is waymarked with the event's Owl symbol; competitors are provided with GPX route files as a navigation backup. The event emphasises self-navigation and endurance, making it attractive to experienced long-distance runners and walkers who prefer minimal, largely off-road courses.
The organiser, Great Owl Running, operates an alternating start-venue policy from 2026: even years start at St John's Community Church, Greengates (BD10 0BB) and odd years at Miners Welfare Hall, Garforth (LS25 1AA). The 2026 edition is scheduled for 12 September 2026 with early and standard waves (05:00 early start and 08:00 main race start) and registration opens two hours before the chosen start time. Checkpoints with food and drink are provided along the route, a small returnable drop bag is allowed at the halfway checkpoint, and finishers receive a medal; pacers and crew are permitted subject to strict mandatory-kit rules enforced by the organiser. Entrants are responsible for navigation and required kit (for example headtorch, waterproof and capacity for 1 litre water), and GPX files and course maps are published on the official event pages.
