Lakes in a Day 2026 is a point-to-point 50-mile mountain challenge organised by Durty Events that traverses the Lake District from Caldbeck to Cartmel. The course includes approximately 4,000m of ascent and takes in high fells such as the Helvellyn Ridge, exposed ridgelines and a long second half along the western shoreline of Windermere. The route is deliberately not fully waymarked in upland sections so strong navigation skills and mandatory safety kit are required; contingency low-level routes may be used in extreme weather.
The event offers live tracking, full race medical first-aid cover, three well-stocked feed stations and on-site catering at the finish, and every finisher receives a T-shirt and medal. There are podium prizes and age-category awards, and a series of recce/navigation days are run in advance to help prepare participants. Entries are solo only, with a range of logistical options such as coach transfers and campsite parking detailed on the official event page.
