RUN GREEN – RUN HAPPY: the Königsforst-Marathon is a long‑standing nature race on the edge of Cologne, inviting runners to experience the “green lung” of the region. Founded in 1973, it offers an atmospheric route through the Königsforst with around 85% on forest paths, passing local landmarks such as Monte Troodelöh and the Wassertretstelle. The event emphasises conservation, careful route stewardship and a friendly club atmosphere, making it a distinctive spring fixture.
Runners can choose from three distances, including a 63.3 km ultramarathon alongside the classic marathon and half marathon. Starts are arranged in small waves to keep the flow comfortable rather than a single mass start, and the organiser highlights “three distances, one price” to allow flexible distance switching under their rules. The measured loop format supports reliable timing and clear lap progression, with security cyclists, numerous marshals and ASB medical teams providing comprehensive support.
Every finisher receives a special medallion featuring a bird motif, with record bonuses offered for all‑time best performances and certain age classes. The route avoids country roads and prioritises safe, car‑free running wherever possible, enhancing the natural feel of the day. Live results and a detailed information/downloads section help participants prepare confidently for race weekend.
