The GVG-Frühlingslauf Frechen (also referred to as Frühlingslauf Frechen) is a one-day city-centre running festival held in Frechen with a measured road course and a prominent hill-climb element. The event is organised by pulsschlag Events and presented in partnership with Volksbank Rhein‑Erft‑Köln, combining short children’s races with popular 5 km and 10 km mass-participation races. The course starts and finishes at the Rathausvorplatz in the heart of Frechen and routes are signed and measured according to international competition rules.
The programme caters for a broad range of ages and abilities, from the Bambinilauf (660 m) and Schülerlauf (1.8 km) to the 5 km and 10 km Volksläufe, plus a Doppelwertung that combines the 5 km and 10 km efforts. A signature feature is the Bergwertung up to Herbertskaul, which crowns the fastest hill climber, while chip (transponder) timing provides gross and net results for the timed races. Practical information such as start number collection, medical cover, refreshments on course and at the finish, and changing/shower facilities are provided on the official event pages.
