EKIDEN France Environnement Villeneuve d'Ascq is a community-focused ekiden (marathon relay) presented under its French title, L'Ekiden France Environnement. The race covers the marathon distance of 42.195 km contested by teams of six runners across six legs (5 km, 10 km, 5 km, 10 km, 5 km and 7.195 km), and the organisers promote accessibility for a wide range of abilities. The event emphasises collective spirit and sporting performance while highlighting local engagement and volunteer support.
The competition is staged at Stadium Lille Métropole in Villeneuve d'Ascq and includes a dedicated Ekiden Kids non-competitive activity for children with a warm-up at 08:45 and an 8-minute track effort. Sustainability is a central USP, with measures such as reusable dishware, eco-cups, sorting bins and local organic catering highlighted by the organisers. The 2026 edition is scheduled for 11 October 2026, registration opens on 11 April 2026, and the race is qualifying for the France Championships 2026.
