The East Bay Kids Triathlon (EBKT) is a new triathlon specifically for kids aged FOUR through SEVENTEEN.
Triathlon
There are three triathlon events to choose from.
- Competitive Triathlon - For kids aged 6 to 15.
- Non-Competitive Triathlon - For kids aged 4-7. WILL NOT BE TIMED
- Super-Sprint triathlon - For kids 11 to 17.
Duathlon
A duathlon is a run-bike-run. Kids will run from the start area at the pool to transition, then complete the same bike and run courses with the same distances as those doing the full triathlon. There are both Competitive and Non-Competitive duathlons.
Non-Competitive event - 7 & Under
One parent (or other adult aged 16 and up) are allowed to accompany their child aged 7 & under throughout the entire race including accompanying them at (not in) the pool and running beside them on the bike and run and helping them in transition. Because this age is getting help from their parent and because of their developmental stage, they will not be timed nor ranked.
Competitive event - 6 to 15 & Super-Sprint
Parents of children aged 6 to 10 may come into transition to help setup and tear down their child's spot. Children aged 11 and up are developmentally ready to race on their own!
Kids 6-7 can choose between the Competitive and Non-Competitive events. Kids 11 - 15 can choose the shorter distances of the traditional Triathlon or the longer distances of the Super-Sprint.
