Vorplatz Kulturzentrum, Sillian, Austria
Das Karnische Ungetüm (KUT80) is an extreme point-to-point ultra-trail that starts in Sillian and finishes in Kötschach-Mauthen following the marked Karnischer Höhenweg (KHW 403). The event covers 80 km with approximately 5,200 metres of ascent and is held as a single-stage challenge. The race begins at midnight and competitors must reach the finish within a 20-hour time limit, emphasising endurance and night-time navigation along high alpine ridges.
The route highlights the dramatic scenery of the Karnische Alpen and runs along the Austria–Italy border, offering alpine ridge running and long technical trails. The event is presented as a single-race challenge rather than a multi-category festival, with route planning resources and an ICS schedule download provided on the official listing. Participants are encouraged to prepare for sustained elevation, alpine terrain and self-sufficiency during long sections between support points.
