The Bartenwetzer Volkslauf is a long‑running local running event; the organiser notes it was first held in 1970 and the next edition is listed as the 55th Bartenwetzer Volkslauf on 30 May 2026. The race weekend centres on the Melsunger Waldstadion with start and finish at the stadium on the edge of the Melsunger Stadtwald, and the event is promoted as the oldest Volkslauf in Nordhessen. The organiser, Lauftreff der Melsunger Turngemeinde 1861 e.V., publishes historical results and photo albums for past editions on the event pages.
The programme includes children’s track races (400 m and 1,000 m) plus adult distances of 5 km, 10 km and 19 km, each routed on firm paths through the Melsunger Stadtwald. GPX route files and course profiles for the 5 km, 10 km and 19 km courses are provided on the organiser’s event page to help athletes prepare. Registration and further event information are available via the organiser’s website and the event page aggregates results, route maps and photo galleries for previous years.
