The AJ Bell Great North Run is the world-famous half marathon running from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields and scheduled for 13 September 2026. The race starts on the A167 close to Claremont Road and traditionally crosses the Tyne Bridge before the final mile along the South Shields seafront, with a mass field of around 60,000 runners and a published 10:50 start time. The 2026 edition marks the event's 45th anniversary and features a 2026 branding collaboration with local artist Mul, alongside AJ Bell sponsorship and Great Run Series branding.
The event offers a full participant experience including a finisher medal for every finisher, official action-shot photography and race-number timing chips, plus an event village with food, drink and entertainment for spectators. Entry is primarily by ballot with charity and other entry routes available, and participants are offered optional finisher tees at point of entry (with an associated donation option). Organisers provide route maps, an official app for tracking and regular pre-event communications including an Event Guide and timetable information.
